Slick release a version 0.1, it's quite cool to have got this far with the library. As a little break, as mentioned below, and a bit of celebration, I blew a few hours tonight on building a simple game begining. The plan is to use what time I get over the weekend to extend it. When I was a kid, I liked blocks - eventually it was Lego, but initially it was good old classic wooden blocks. I popped home a few weeks ago and my parents had dug out my blocks so my little girl could play with them. I must admit to being a little jealous, they were *my* blocks after all ;)

So.. I decided to make myself a set and play with both Slick and Phys2D into the bargain. This is what came out:

You can play too!

Now I just need to find a game in there somewhere. Maybe you have to build the tallest tower? Maybe you have to get a certain set of blocks off the ground? Maybe it's about getting a ball from A to B (thanks Endolf) by using the blocks?

Any ideas?

What happened to ROY?! Don't

What happened to ROY?! Don't leave him in the pile of disused games like all the ones before him!

KEV: Git.

or you could reverse it

or you could reverse it slightly and make a 2d jengo or stix or summing or nuffing or summing

KEV: 2D Jenga.. hmm, maybe that could work.

nice, maybe the game could

nice, maybe the game could be to hold up an egg above a certain height with the limited supply of bricks, you could chop away bits of the ground to make it harder. might feel nicer too if moving/rotating had some velocitiy to them.

Hehe this is great already

Hehe this is great already :)

BUT how to make a game out of it? Just a seed of an idea:
Like tetris, but not at all. Blocks are descending from the top of the screen, but instead of trying to keep the "building" as low as possible (tetris like) you should try to build as high as possible. Reaching certain heights will allow you to place a block on ground level or maybe "anchor" one of the higher blocks to the background.

Or you could "reverse jenga". Tearing down is always more fun the building up ;) You get to place detonations on somewhat stable buildings, to bring it below a certain height. Possibly a one on one. Build towers and then you get to shoot a block over to your neighbor to try to knock it over, worms style-ish.

I think it's great as it is.

I think it's great as it is. Copying the patterns has proved very entertaining. :)
