Asteroids 3D Tutorial [Complete]

Asteroids 3D Tutorial [Complete]

The readers of the space invaders tutorials sent me quite a bit of feedback. Mostly pretty positive, they were asking for more about loading 3D models, game engines and sound effects. With this is mind I created a new tutorial stream based around a 3D modelled version of asteroids.

You can find it here

Lapin Capture [Complete]

Lapin Capture [Complete]

Lapin Capture is a tool I wrote over a couple of days to aid some scientists I know (including my wife) to capture data and perform analysis in certain types of experiments.

Martian Madness 2

Martian Madness 2

Well this didn't get to far, ended up being more of tech demo than anything else. The game was based around the Cadaver game style with a cutesy story of lost family. You can give it a try here - be warned there isn't an end or really a start at the moment.

Nice shadows tho :)

Typhoon [Complete]

Typhoon [Complete]

Typhoon was a game like the classic Tempest that I intended to enter for the IDevGames OMG games contest. Frankly I didn't think it was good enough by the end to enter - I only had about 3 days of time to write it from scratch.

Even so, its a fun blast. Give it a try at http://www.cokeandcode.com/typhoon.

Tower Puzzle [Complete]

Tower Puzzle [Complete]

This simple puzzle game was written on my last visit to the USA. I was only here for a few weeks with my Wife, but she was here for a conference so I ended up with plenty of time sitting in the San Diego sun writing computer games. Its really a simple game, twist the rows round the tower to match matches and clear the tower. Give it a go here

Take Down [Complete]

Take Down [Complete]

What I thought was my first original idea turned out to be a rip-off of one of the most popular PopCap games. Still, was simple to write and I think the end product was pretty great. Check it out (Webstart/JNLP Link) here

Snakis.com Mobile Games [Complete]

Snakis.com Mobile Games [Complete]

What Java games programmer hasn't played with J2ME at one point or another? Well, if you haven't - shame on you! J2ME is pretty easy to get to grips with but immensely hard to be successful at due to the large number of inconsistences between handset hardware and VM implementation. I found out while trying to produce some commercial games over at Snakis.com (site removed).

Mini Adventure (Lights of Laminos)

Mini Adventure (Lights of Laminos)

So, I went through this phase where I was obsessed with 2D games. RPG Maker had had a great affect on me in a previous life and I'd really wanted to see an online role play game using a similar graphical style. So.. here it was, mini-adventure. This was a great project, I learnt a hell of a lot about networking programming comparing your small number skirmish style games to your long running server based games.

The project has since been picked up by a community group who are continuing work (and making the source much better I might add) under the name JRPG.

Martian Madness

Martian Madness

Something I hadn't really seen done before was to take a standard 2D platformer but render the whole thing in 3D. Since I was playing with Xith 3D at the time I decided to have a go with this scenegraph. It work out pretty well with one complete demo level to just, push and dive around in.

Xith Model Loaders [Complete]

Xith Model Loaders [Complete]

After Java 3D went AWOL, like many people I moved to the Xith 3D scenegraph. Its was missing some of the loaders I used in the past so I ported my Java 3D loaders across. Again, versions of these are still available from New Dawn Software but the code is now maintained as part of the Xith-Tookit.
